Member Spotlight: Heidi's Image Enhancement Clinic
June 12, 2013
When you meet Heidi Oatis, her infectious energy, warmth and genuine compassion are apparent.
Heidi Oatis is President and CEO of Heidi’s Image Enhancement Clinic, one of the newest businesses in Campbell and a new Chamber member. She recently relocated from Union City to enable her clientele to more easily access her services.
Because for Heidi, it is all about helping those in need.
The Image Enhancement Clinic is truly one-of-a-kind. Heidi tirelessly and selflessly works with men, women and children to help them cope with a variety of health crises, move on with dignity and regain their confidence.
She assists people undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy as well as people with alopecia by providing them with personalized, non-surgical hair prosthesis. She also works closely with David Trainor, a facial prostethetist, and Raymond Peters, chief eye prosthestist, to create maxillo-facial prosthetics for people who’ve had cancer or undergone severe trauma from car accidents or burns. This type of prosthetic miraculously recreates eyes, nose, eyebrows, and other facial features.
Since she was 9 years old, Heidi has been fascinated with hair. Over the years, she has fine-tuned her art and is able to recreate a client’s hair, right down to the exact color, texture, density and style. When possible, her clients have their first appointment before undergoing treatment during which Heidi photographs their hair from all angles. Five weeks later, she has created by hand what she refers to as a non-surgical, personalized hair prosthesis. Made from real human hair that Heidi sources from Brazil, Russia, China and India, it is literally identical to the customer’s real hair. Held in place by surgical adhesive, it can be shampooed, styled, and even worn in a pool or the ocean.
Heidi’s Image Enhancement Clinic also offers a Wig Loan Program. Heidi has 20 wigs she created which she lends for free to people who need a wig while their custom hairpiece is being created. Heidi will change the style and color to match that of the client. When they no longer need the wig, it is returned, restyled and loaned out to another client. Heidi also offers a free wig program during October for Breast cancer Awareness month.
“The first thing you notice about someone is their face and hair,” Heidi says matter-of-factly. “I’m able to give people of all ages and genders back their self-confidence and dignity during a very difficult time. To me, there is nothing better. I believe if you look in the mirror and don’t see a sick person, you will start to heal on the inside as well.”
Heidi, who, in addition to being an accredited cosmologist is a trained makeup artist for TV and movies, also offers private “Image Restoration” sessions. During these one-on-one consultations, Heidi teaches her clients how to apply makeup to hide scars, enhance sallow skin tones, and apply fake eyelashes and eyebrows.
In addition to helping clients feel good on the outside, Heidi’s Clinic helps them in so many other ways. She offers a warm, inviting, private environment, a variety of helpful outside resources and products, a sympathetic ear and a genuine love for helping others.
The IEC also does hair and movie-worthy makeup for proms, weddings and other special events and creates specialized hair pieces for those with thinning hair and alopecia.
As an active member of the Union City Chamber and the community at large, Heidi believes in giving back in a big way. The Campbell Chamber of Commerce is proud to list Heidi’s Image Enhancement Clinic and the invaluable service she offers among our members and our community.
