Rocking Through Time: Campbell's Live Music Heyday in the 70s and 80s
As we approach May and the 45th annual Boogie Music Festival, this month's luncheon focuses on Campbell's history with music and musical talent. Our guest speaker is Robert Berry, a true Bay Area musical legend.
Join us for an electrifying journey through Campbell's vibrant live music scene of the 1970s and 1980s, as we welcome Robert Berry to the Campbell Chamber of Commerce luncheon on April 17. With over 30 live music venues dotting the landscape, Campbell was a hotbed for musical talent during these decades.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Campbell was home to more than 30 live music venues such as Gaslighter Theatre, The Bodega, Boswell's, The Parlor, Khartoum, Smokey Mountain Saloon, The Garret, The Outlook, Dangerfield's, and Desperados. These venues hosted hundreds of regional, national, and internationally known music acts including Albert King, Boz Scaggs, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, Charlie Musselwhite, Country Joe and the Fish, Doobie Brothers, Elvin Bishop, Greg Kihn, Hush, Joe Cocker, John Lee Hooker, Leon Russell, Pat Benatar, Ramones, Styx, The Chambers Brothers, and Tower of Power.
Did you know that the iconic Doobie Brothers had their first performance, as The Doobie Brothers, at The Gaslighter Theater in downtown Campbell?
Robert Berry, a Campbell resident, and GRAMMY-nominated recording artist will be our guide through this remarkable era. From his early days with Bay Area favorites Hush to his international acclaim with '3' alongside Keith Emerson & Carl Palmer, Robert's musical journey is impressive. The first single released from ‘3”, "Talkin' Bout," penned by Berry, reached No. 9 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. His collaborations with Ambrosia, Alliance, and the December People, coupled with his extensive work as a record producer and songwriter, solidify his status as a musical powerhouse.
But Robert's contributions extend beyond the stage. As the founder of Soundtek Studios in downtown Campbell since 1981, he has been instrumental in shaping the local music scene. Soundtek Studios, renowned for its cutting-edge facilities and expert team, has been a go-to destination for artists seeking top-notch recording and production services.
Don't miss this opportunity to delve into Campbell's rich musical history with Robert Berry on April 17. Whether you're a seasoned music enthusiast or simply curious about the city's past, this promises to be an unforgettable experience.
