Join the Chamber for our May Luncheon with Guest Speakers Dan Furtado, Ken Estep, Campbell resident and Gold Star father and LTC Sean Chang, the Professor of Military Science at Santa Clara University. They will be speaking on the significance of Memorial Day.
Lunch will be catered by Table & Terrace.
As a Army veteran, retired Colonel with 40 years of service in the Army reserve, and volunteer for the Campbell Veteran's Memorial Foundation, Dan will be sharing local history and stories about Campbell veterans as a lead in to Memorial Day.
About Dan Furtado:
Dan Furtado is a native of Campbell, CA. He traces his family lineage to Campbell and the Santa Clara Valley to the late 1800’s. Dan attended Campbell schools and graduated from Campbell High School. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of San Francisco. Dan served in the US Army and retired as a Colonel after forty years of service. His assignments included Commandant of the Presidio Army Reserve School, Commander of the 334th Medical Group, and Commander, 5th Brigade, 104th Division. He taught pharmacology at Stanford University for forty-two years, and still teaches part-time at Cal State University Monterey Bay. He has served fifteen years on the city Council and three terms as Mayor of Campbell.
About Ken Estep:
Ken Estep has called the City of Campbell home since the mid 60’s, attending Campbell schools, including Campbell High School. Ken built his career in Silicon Valley, retiring from Cisco Systems in 2020. Ken is a founding member of the Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation, had the privilege to be a part of creating, participating in, and leading Employee Resource Organizations in Silicon Valley and across our US. He now works to connect Veterans to services and support they need.
Ken’s son Sgt Adam Estep was born and raised in the City of Campbell. He attended Campbell Schools and got his High School Diploma from Prospect High School. Adam became a Mechanized Vehicle (Tank) Driver as a part of the First Cavalry (First Team). He was a part of the unit whose story is captured in the book and documentary movie, The Long Road Home, the story ‘Black Sunday’. Sgt Adam Estep gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting his team April 29th2004, was returned home and rests in our national cemetery in San Bruno, California.
About LTC Sean Chang:
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Sean Chang was born in Taiwan, grew up in Los Angeles, and
graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point as an Infantry Officer in May 2004. LTC Chang began his career as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Iraq in 2006. After his duty with the 82nd Airborne Division, LTC Chang was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, and deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009 as an Infantry Company Commander. Following company command, LTC Chang completed his postgraduate studies at the University of St Andrews in St Andrews, Scotland, the US Army Command and General Staff College, and the School of Advanced Military Studies. As a major, LTC Chang served with the 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and conducted operations in the Indo-Pacific region. Currently, LTC Chang is the Professor of Military Science for Santa Clara University Army ROTC.
